How we grow our crops

You’ll never meet such a dedicated and passionate group of mulit-generational growers and their crews than at Farm Fresh Direct. Our “offices” have some of the most beautiful and breaktaking views, yet we know growing potatoes is serious work. Tending to our potatoes and knowing that we are feeding so many people is something we truly love to do.
We plant seed potatoes first thing in the spring when the frost has melted and the soil is still cool. The timing of when we plant depends on how long it takes each variety to mature. It’s a truly beautiful sight to see when the plants are thriving and the fields are in flower.
The summer is all about carefully monitoring our crops. We make sure every field has a healthy amount of water and the nutrients are balanced. Since potatoes are some of the most vulnerable vegetables around, we keep an eagle eye out for pests and disease so we can keep them safe.
Fall is harvest time and one of the busiest times of the year for potato growers. We have a limited number of days to get our crop out of the fields and into storage.

Since the winter months are our slow period, we focus all our attention on planning for spring, ordering new equipment, repairing existing equipment, and buying seed. It’s also a great time to spend some much-deserved time with our families and maybe even get away for a little vacation.
